Incorporated in 2010, Tata Steel Minerals Canada Ltd. (TSMC) is a partnership between Tata Steel (77.68%), the Québec government (18%) and New Millennium Iron Corp. (4.32%). TSMC is part of the Tata and Tata Steel group, a Fortune 500 company. It is one of the world’s leading steel producers and has 70 000 employees on the five continents.

Tata Steel extracts and processes iron ore in the Menihek region in Labrador and in Northern Québec, near Schefferville, from its numerous hematite deposits scattered over more than 30 km and ranging from <1 million to 50 million tonnes. The direct shipping ore (DSO), the sintering fines, and the superfine materials are produced at an average annual rate of roughly 4 million tonnes with a minimum iron content of 64.5% Fe. Products are shipped to Sept-Îles then to the company’s customers the world over.

On October 4, 2016, Tata Steel became the first mining company to have its ore transit through the SFP Pointe-Noire’s infrastructure.
