Established in 2016 through Champion Iron, a mining development company, Quebec Iron Ore is a wholly Canadian entity managed by Québec experts. The company received a mandate to oversee the revival of the Bloom Lake Mine, a key Champion Iron project in Fermont in Northern Québec.

In 2017, an initial long-term service contract was concluded between the SFP Pointe-Noire s.e.c. and Quebec Iron Ore. At that time, the SFP Pointe-Noire assumed responsibility for the transportation and handling of QIO ore and for maintaining and repairing its railway equipment.

Since the advent of the first shipments in February 2018, the SFP Pointe-Noire has operated more than 716 trains, transhipped some 17 million tonnes of ore, and loaded more than 98 ships for Quebec Iron Ore. (Updated: June 2020)
The SFP Pointe-Noire is proud to contribute to the success of this wholly Québec mining project that is engendering significant socioeconomic spinoff for the North Shore and the rest of Québec.
